Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families. The organization accomplishes this goal by providing free assistance to veterans in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. It is fully funded through its membership dues and public contributions. It is not a government agency and receives no government funds. We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. The Veterans Service Center, opened in March 2015, is equipped with a high speed internet café where veterans can build resumes, apply for jobs, and video chat with friends and family. PG&E championed the project recruiting many local and national companies to add additional support.

Many resources and referrals are also available from the center staff as well as information on other Volunteers of America Veterans programs.

      ​​Troops to College was created to attract more veterans to California public universities and colleges by making campuses more veteran friendly. The initiative was designed to showcase the full range of curricula and services available to veterans at California State Universities.

      The program is designed to help veterans, especially combat veterans, transition to civilian life and the college environment. Veterans and their families may enroll in a course about combat stress, post-traumatic stress disorders, and other issues affecting veterans returning to civilian life. The course is taught by a VA counselor who is also a combat veteran. The curriculum is specifically designed to increase the student veteran's academic, work, and social success. The class provides participants instruction in interpersonal skills, methods of adapting to civilian life and work careers, and techniques for managing military operational stress.

      Nevada County Pets In Need operates the Nevada County Pets In Need Thrift Store. We offer clothing, shoes, accessories, books and all manner of household goods. Most items cost $1 however we have an over dollar area where items are priced individually.

      Proceeds from the Thrift Store go to supporting local Pets in need of food, veterinary care, licensing, assist with spay and neuter, flea and tick products and collars and leashes.

      We are a non profit organization supporting spayed and neutered pets of the homeless, low income, seniors and military veterans.

      Welcome Home Vets provides individual therapy for veterans and their families and support group meetings. WHV contracts with local psychologists who are knowledgeable in both psychotherapy and military culture.

      WHV also provides advocacy for veterans and their families by working to increase community awareness of the problem of military-related psychological trauma and its effects on the veteran, the family, and the community.
