CalWORKs is a public assistance program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have a child(ren) in the home. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments.

The County of Placer has CalWORKs offices in Auburn, Rocklin, and Carnelian Bay (Tahoe).

If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses.

The amount of a family‘s monthly assistance payment depends on a number of factors, including the number of people who are eligible and the special needs of any of those family members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family receives.

Services
The Behavioral Health Department provides a wide variety of Adult Mental Health Services to the public, particularly for Medi-Cal recipients and those with severe mental illness. These include Mental Health Services and Alcohol and Other Drug Services. County employees provide some services, while contracted individuals and organizations provide other services, with County monitoring.

Service Range
This continuum of care ranges from acute inpatient to routine outpatient services, and includes medication services, psychotherapy, residential services, wellness and recovery, care management, long term institutional care and vocational services. Adult Services monitors the delivery of services to ensure that State standards are met for quality, timeliness and authorization.

CalFresh (also known as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program or SNAP) is a federally mandated program that provides monthly food benefits to assist low-income households in purchasing nutritious food. CalFresh Benefits
The amount of CalFresh benefits depends on family size, income, and monthly expenses such as housing, utilities, and child care. The benefits will be loaded onto an Electronic Benefits Transfer card (EBT card) that looks like a regular credit card and can be used at most markets and grocery stores. Children's Behavioral Health

Nevada County Behavioral Health Children's Mental Health serves children and youth who have Nevada County Medi-Cal and meet moderate to severe criteria for Behavioral Health Treatment: recent psychiatric hospitalization, Probation or Child Welfare involvement, significant challenges at school, homelessness, or a complex combination of concerns that may involve trauma, depression or anxiety symptoms, and housing instability.

  • Home based wrap around support for children and families who need more intensive care
Treatment location is based on need and can take place at the Nevada County Behavioral Health Office, schools, Family Resource Centers, or other locations convenient for the family. The Nevada Cares Campus Safe Camp serves as a space where staff provides access to basic services and a more secure location for individuals not wishing to move into congregate shelters. To be eligible the person must complete an application form, be willing to work towards a housing plan and be able to manage their own activities of daily living.

The Code Compliance Division of the Nevada County Community Development Agency promotes and maintains a healthy, safe and desirable living and working environment by administering an enforcement program to correct violations of codes and ordinances enacted by the Board of Supervisors in regards to property, buildings, and structures. Enforces regulations for abandoned vehicles, building code violations, California State Housing Law, condition of existing structures that constitute a clear and present danger to the public, illegal solid waste, and zoning requirements for structures.

Processes abandoned vehicle complaints to remove abandoned vehicles from public and private property. To report an abandoned vehicle, call the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement (AVA) Hotline at 530-470-2750.
