One of the outreach ministries of The Village Church is the Food Closet. It has served the community for over three decades. Gifts of food each month, donations through Village Market, and other financial donations support this program.  Non perishible food box can be picked up M-F 9-5.

July 2022 update on SB1383 & AB1826
Food waste collection service for businesses and residences in Nevada County, Grass Valley and Nevada City is on the way. Until announced, keep putting your food waste in your trash, and keep it out of the green waste cart!

California State Laws SB1383 & AB1826 require collection of organic materials such as food scraps, and food-spoiled paper in addition to landscape trimmings. Nevada County currently does not have the infrastructure to support these laws at the scale needed until the transfer station update project is completed. Food diversion updates will be provided by WM of Nevada County and your local government.

If you would like to practice food diversion now, donate unopened edible food to community food banks and start composting in your yard or find a farmer to give your scraps to.

The Sierra Vista Community Center is located in downtown Colfax, California and serves the foothills of Placer and Nevada Counties.

Sierra Vista Center, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that is home to community service programs, activities, and classes for all age groups in the Colfax area.

Sierra Vista sponsors activities and rents our facility, which includes meeting space, a gymnasium, commercial kitchen, and ball field.

Shekinah Care, In-Home Care for Seniors provides fee-based long- and short-term in-home care for seniors.

Services include:

• Personal care including bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility assistance
• Palliative care
• Alzheimer's and dementia care
• Healthy food prep

Provides a thorough assessment of home and living conditions to point out possible health and safety issues and determine what type of assistance is needed. The choice to make any changes in the home environment and care should involve the client and all available family members and health care professionals. Fingerprinted for safe and reliable help.

Call for appointment and then an in-home assessment will be done to ascertain the level of services that are required. Services for in-home care are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Shifts can be any length of time with minimum shift of 4 hours.

The San Juan Ridge Family Resource Center (FRC) provides families in the San Juan Ridge area with information and referrals to local resources, services, and facilities on a drop-in basis for visitors of all ages.

NOTE: The FRC does NOT have any housing resources and does NOT have any gift cards, gas cards, etc.

Services the FRC does offer include: computer, phone, fax, printer, children's play space, clothes closet, food pantry, diapers, lending and reference libraries, information, referrals, parenting support, weekly children's playgroup, summer camps, adult yoga, children's dance classes, and periodic events. The dates above are for the entire farmers market season.
Spend CalFresh dollars at Western Nevada County Farmers Markets and receive up to a $15 match per market every week. Sierra Harvest's Gold Country Gleaning Program organizes volunteers to harvest fresh, seasonal produce that would otherwise go to waste and donates it to local food banks. Volunteers are encouraged to take gleaned goodies home too.
