This program's goal is to implement policy, systems and environmental change projects along with nutrition and physical activity education interventions for eligible populations by:
  • Increasing consumption and access to healthy dietary choices where people live, learn, work, or play
  • Reducing consumption and/or appeal of unhealthy dietary choices
  • Increase access to and/or appeal of physical activity opportunities
  • Educating the Placer County SNAP-Ed population on healthy choices

  • Nutrition and Physical Activity Education: A variety of nutrition and physical activity lessons and workshops are available to eligible schools, community groups, and organizations. Public Health (PH) Nurses are Registered Nurses who have additional training and certification to work in the community and the field of Public Health. Our goal is to meet preventive health needs of families and individuals, and promote positive health behavior. Our nurses offer in-home care to new parents, children, and the elderly.

If you or someone you know could benefit from Public Health Nursing assistance, start by submitting a Public Health Nursing Referral Form (PDF) to our office. Once received, our nurses contact the referred individual to offer services.

CALFRESH (FOOD STAMPS)

CalFresh, formerly known as Food Stamps and known federally as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), can help families and individuals put healthy and nutritious food on the table. CalFresh provides extra funds to help those who are in need each month to buy groceries. With a CalFresh electronic “debit” card (known as EBT) you can buy most foods at many food stores and farmers markets. Even if temporary, individuals and families who have experienced a change in their circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and need additional help, may apply for CalFresh.

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal offers medical, dental, vision and mental health care to eligible individuals and families at little or no cost.
