Drop-in benefits information and application assistance is provided by the Navigator team from the Nevada County Department of Social Services at three libraries each month. Stop by if you need help enrolling in, or renewing your participation in, benefits programs such as

While these resources are always available to the public, having them all together during the Services Drop-In allows you to learn, at the same meeting, such things as what kind of support is available for seniors, how you can proceed with child support, and which doctors take your insurance. These are drop-in services and no appointment is necessary.

The Medi-Cal Office of the Ombudsman helps solve problems from a neutral standpoint to ensure members receive all medically necessary covered services for which plans are contractually responsible.

The Office of the Ombudsman:

  • Serves as an objective resource to resolve issues between Medi-Cal managed care members and managed care health plans
  • Conducts impartial investigations of member complaints about managed care health plans
  • Helps members with urgent enrollment and disenrollment problems.
  • Offers information and referrals
  • Identifies ways to improve the effectiveness of the Medi-Cal managed care program
  • Educates members on how to effectively navigate through the Medi-Cal managed care system

Medi-Cal provides telephone support during normal business hours and an automated phone line for additional information and help after hours.

Medi-Cal phone support: 800-541-5555. The Telephone Service Center (TSC) is available 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays.

People who have straight Medi-Cal can call this number to get a list of providers in their area that take Medi-Cal. Once they have Anthem Blue Cross, California Health and Wellness, or other managed care, they will need to contact those companies directly for a list of providers. In January 2024 the Medi-Cal contracted provider in Nevada and Placer Counties will be Partnership Healthplan of California (which will replace both Anthem Blue Cross and California Health and Wellness).

Automated Phone Center: 800-786-4346. The automated phone center is available 7am to 8pm, PST, seven days a week.

The Medi-Cal Program offers dental services as one of the program's benefits.

The Medi-Cal Dental Program covers a variety of dental services for Medi-Cal beneficiaries, such as:

  • Diagnostic and preventive dental hygiene (e.g. examinations, x-rays, and teeth cleanings)
  • Emergency services for pain control
  • Tooth extractions
  • Fillings
  • Root canal treatments (anterior/posterior)
  • Crowns (prefabricated/laboratory)
  • Scaling and root planing
  • Periodontal maintenance
  • Complete and partial dentures
  • Orthodontics for children who qualify

Members can access dental services through Medi-Cal Dental enrolled providers, who will advise members on the best course of treatment, and under the specific conditions for which some of these services are allowable.
