The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program coordinates volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who are dependents of the Nevada County Juvenile Dependency Court, helping to ensure they have a chance to live in a safe and permanent home.

People from all walks of life may apply to be CASA volunteers. Concern for children, willingness to learn about the child welfare and court systems, a commitment of 10-15 hours a month, good writing and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively are some of what’s needed to be a CASA. 

Contact the CASA program for an application packet. Application includes a personal interview and comprehensive background check. Trainings for the CASA Program are held in the spring and fall; however interested persons can apply at any time. Volunteers must have driver's license and current insurance.

Nevada Child Welfare Services responds to child abuse and neglect reports 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Reports may be made at any time. All referrals are investigated within mandated timeframes.

Community Beyond Violence offers a 24 hour crisis line which is available 365 days a year to victims in crisis from domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, or dating violence, and for their friends or family members. Advocate/Counselors are available 24 hours a day for counseling and response to the hospital or law enforcement. Depending on circumstances, possible emergency transportation, food, and shelter may be available to those in crisis. All services are free, confidential and non-discriminatory.

The Placer County Child Care Council was established in 1991 in accordance with state law AB 2141 to provide a forum for the identification of local priorities for child care and to develop policies to meet the needs identified within these priorities.

The Council consists of 20 members who represent consumers of child care, child care providers, public agencies and community members. Members are appointed by the County Board of Supervisors and the Placer County Superintendent of Schools.

The California Department of Social Services provides funding for the work of the Council, which includes the following: Conduct Local Child Care Needs Assessment, Advocate for the needs of families with respect to early care and education, promote public participation in the planning process, support the existing child care infrastructure by coordinating services that are locally available and serve as a forum to address the child care needs of all families in the community and all child care programs.
