CalWORKs & Employment Services acts as a part of Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

If you are an adult with dependent children, you may be eligible for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, or CalWORKs. CalWORKs provides:

  • Child care, work expense assistance, transportation, and counseling
  • Education, employment and training programs through Employment Services
  • Families with children financial assistance to meet their basic needs
  • Support for families moving toward self-sufficiency

If you are eligible for CalWORKs you will automatically qualify for Medi-Cal and may also qualify for CalFresh. Placer County provides Tick identification through Placer County Mosquito and Vector Control however, Placer County does not provide Tick testing (for Lyme Disease). Placer County Public Health Department refers people to other labs for tick identification and Immunofluorescence assay (IFA) for Borrelia burgdorferi (which can cause Lyme disease).

Animal Care Services is a division of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department. Animal Care Services provides service for the unincorporated areas of Yuba County. Animal Care Services does not provide field services to the City of Wheatland, City of Marysville, or Beale Air Force Base; however it does provide licensing services for the City of Wheatland ONLY.

Yuba County Search and Rescue (YCSAR) is a volunteer organization under the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office that responds to emergencies and disasters. They conduct searches for missing persons, rescues, and evidence recovery using ground teams, ATVs, K-9 units, equine teams, and water rescue specialists. YCSAR also assists with evacuations during disasters and supports community events. Funded by donations and grants, members complete regular training to stay mission-ready.

Services Include:

  • Search for Missing Persons – Ground, ATV/UTV, K-9, and mounted teams.

  • Rescue Operations – Low-angle rope rescue, swift-water rescue, and dive support.

  • Evidence Recovery – Assisting law enforcement in locating and securing evidence.

  • Disaster Response – Evacuations (including animals), shelter support, and logistical aid.

  • Community Support – Participation in parades, fundraisers, and public safety events.

  • Mutual Aid – Assisting other counties during large-scale emergencies.
