Services
The Behavioral Health Department provides a wide variety of Adult Mental Health Services to the public, particularly for Medi-Cal recipients and those with severe mental illness. These include Mental Health Services and Alcohol and Other Drug Services. County employees provide some services, while contracted individuals and organizations provide other services, with County monitoring.

Service Range
This continuum of care ranges from acute inpatient to routine outpatient services, and includes medication services, psychotherapy, residential services, wellness and recovery, care management, long term institutional care and vocational services. Adult Services monitors the delivery of services to ensure that State standards are met for quality, timeliness and authorization.

Children's Behavioral Health

Nevada County Behavioral Health Children's Mental Health serves children and youth who have Nevada County Medi-Cal and meet moderate to severe criteria for Behavioral Health Treatment: recent psychiatric hospitalization, Probation or Child Welfare involvement, significant challenges at school, homelessness, or a complex combination of concerns that may involve trauma, depression or anxiety symptoms, and housing instability.

Treatment location is based on need and can take place at the Nevada County Behavioral Health Office, schools, Family Resource Centers, or other locations convenient for the family. The Nevada County Department of Social Services offers a supplemental assistance program for adults who do not qualify for federal or state programs such as CalWORKs or SSI/SSP. 

The program is designed to meet basic needs when no other resources are available and serves as a last-resort safety net. General Assistance is a repayable grant, not an entitlement.

Services include:

  • Emergency cash assistance for housing, food, and basic needs
  • Temporary employment services for individuals deemed employable

Program eligibility is determined through a needs assessment and requires repayment under certain conditions.

Washoe County, Nevada, has housing and homeless services in Reno that may be available to people who inquire from the Tahoe Truckee area.

Washoe County's Cares Campus is a low barrier emergency shelter that provides adult individuals challenged with homelessness some of the following basic services: congregate housing, sleeping accommodations, restrooms, showers, meals, and mail service.

The Nevada Cares Campus (NCC) Emergency Shelter admits men, women, and couples. Pets allowed.

The San Juan Ridge PARTNERS Family Resource Center (FRC) provides families in the San Juan Ridge area with information and referrals to local resources, services, and facilities on a drop-in basis for visitors of all ages.

It also assists families with child development, parenting support, counseling, education, and employment tools. It also offers playgroups for families with children ages 0-5, and weekly activities for older children.

Note:

  • The FRC does not have any housing resources and does NOT have any gift cards, gas cards, etc.

Nevada County Adult Protective Services (APS) supports older adults and dependent adults who may be experiencing neglect, physical abuse, financial exploitation, or self-neglect. 

APS investigates reports of abuse and provides safety planning, referrals, and case management to protect vulnerable adults who are unable to care for themselves.

Services include:

  • Investigating reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older and dependent adults
  • Providing referrals to medical, legal, housing, and supportive services
  • Developing safety plans and offering crisis intervention
  • Coordinating case management to support ongoing needs
