This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant people, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal is free or low-cost for California residents who meet eligibility requirements. Medi-Cal considers income, but there is no asset limit (bank accounts, cash, property, vehicles).

  • Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) is transportation by ambulance, wheelchair van, or litter van for those who cannot use public or private transportation. This requires a Provider Certification Statement (essentially a prescription for transportation). PHC can assist with obtaining this.
  • Non-medical transportation (NMT) is transportation by private or public vehicle for people who do not have another way to get to their appointment.
