The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools houses a McKinney-Vento Community School liaison. The McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a U.S. federal law providing federal money to homeless shelter programs.

Homeless Youth Services provides school-aged youth experiencing homelessness with additional support and services to ensure that all students have equal access to educational opportunities. 

Services include:
  • Dispute resolution
  • Community outreach and referrals
  • Funding for school activities and educational needs
  • Staff development materials
  • Attendance services

Families and students experiencing homelessness can reach out to their school's Homeless Liaison to ask about services and programs that their child may qualify for. Services that your school may be able to provide include:

  • Assistance with gathering educational records
