Turning Point Community Programs provide a variety of mental health services for people with psychiatric disabilities to help them achieve recovery, independence, and self-sufficiency. People can self-refer for some programs and some programs require a referral from another agency.

Referrals for most Nevada County programs must be made by Nevada County Behavioral Health. Call 530-265-1437.
  • Insight Respite Center (IRC) is a four-bedroom home in rural Nevada County that is peer operated. The team fosters a stigma-free supportive and healing environment for adults (18+) with mental health symptoms who are experiencing a difficult time in their community. The team provides respite services to prevent a crisis from occurring or requiring hospitalization. FREED Center for Independent Living offers PEARLS (Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives), a home-based program designed to reduce symptoms of depression in older adults. 

This model supports emotional well-being through structured problem-solving and increased engagement in meaningful activities.

Program details include:

  • Screening using the PHQ-9 depression tool at regular intervals
  • Six to eight 1-hour sessions over a 6-month period, followed by optional check-in calls
  • Focus on structured problem-solving and increasing physical, social, and pleasurable activities
  • Sessions offered via phone, Zoom, FaceTime, or another agreed-upon virtual platform

Additional notes:

Designed for older adults experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety.
