Children's Behavioral Health

Nevada County Behavioral Health Children's Mental Health serves children and youth who have Nevada County Medi-Cal and meet moderate to severe criteria for Behavioral Health Treatment: recent psychiatric hospitalization, Probation or Child Welfare involvement, significant challenges at school, homelessness, or a complex combination of concerns that may involve trauma, depression or anxiety symptoms, and housing instability.

  • Home based wrap around support for children and families who need more intensive care

Treatment location is based on need and can take place at the Nevada County Behavioral Health Office, schools, Family Resource Centers, or other locations convenient for the family. Opening Doors, Inc helps underserved members of the Greater Sacramento Area access opportunities within the US social and economic system. Their programs help those escaping human trafficking and newly arrived refugees to start safe and healthy lives. They provide low-cost immigration legal services, financial education classes, and small business support programs.

Nevada Insight Respite Center (IRC) offers respite program for individuals with mental health challenges going through difficult times in order to prevent crisis intervention or hospitalization. Insight Respite Center is a peer centered program where guests are treated as equals on their road to recovery. They realize that fostering of self-esteem and self-respect is crucial to the health and well being of an individual. Peer Supporters are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for guests to connect with and experience mutual learning. We offer hope, compassion and understanding in a stigma-free environment.

To make a referral, please call Nevada County Behavioral Health at 530-265-1437 and ask to speak with the intake person of the day. If an individual is accepted, they will be contacted by a peer from Insight Respite.

Community Beyond Violence provides crisis response and recovery services for individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking. 

Services are confidential and available to survivors of all genders.

Services include:

  • 24/7 crisis counseling by phone, text, and online chat
  • Emergency shelter and safe housing (pet friendly) for up to 90 days
  • Support groups
  • Food, clothing, and transportation assistance
  • Legal advocacy and help with Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs)
  • Court and mediation accompaniment
  • Referrals to Nevada County Victim Witness and other support systems
  • Coordination of Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) exams and medical response following sexual assault
  • Referrals to additional services

Services
The Behavioral Health Department provides a wide variety of Adult Mental Health Services to the public, particularly for Medi-Cal recipients and those with severe mental illness. These include Mental Health Services and Alcohol and Other Drug Services. County employees provide some services, while contracted individuals and organizations provide other services, with County monitoring.

Service Range
This continuum of care ranges from acute inpatient to routine outpatient services, and includes medication services, psychotherapy, residential services, wellness and recovery, care management, long term institutional care and vocational services. Adult Services monitors the delivery of services to ensure that State standards are met for quality, timeliness and authorization.

Sierra Therapy Center provides individual counseling services, child and teen therapy, marriage and couples counseling, and intern supervision for MFTs and EMDR to Grass Valley, Nevada City, Auburn, Truckee, and surrounding areas.
