Nevada County Superior Court has an ADA Coordinator (Americans with Disabilities Act) to ensure full access to the judicial system.

POLICY
In accordance with California Rule of Court 1.100, it is the policy of Superior Court of California, County of Nevada to assure that qualified individuals with disabilities have equal and full access to the judicial system.

REQUEST FOR ACCOMODATION
Requests for Accommodation including but not limited to auxiliary aids and/or services should be made as far in advance of the requested accommodations implementation date as possible, and in any event should be made no less than five court dates prior to the requested implementation date. The Nevada County Law Library is the primary depository of legal reference materials for the County of Nevada, and provides open access of these resources to all members of the community.

Offers approximately 6,000 volumes of reference materials including: Nolo Press self-help law books, the Nevada County Codes, and the Municipal Codes of Grass Valley, Nevada City, and Truckee. Electronic resources include public internet access and computer stations are available for Westlaw, Lexis Nexis Digital Library, CEB OnLaw, Judicial Council forms, legal pleadings, and word processing. Because the Law Library has gone almost completely electronic, our hard-bound books do not always contain the latest updates.

The Law Library offers noon time legal seminars via Zoom, for a nominal fee, and a listing may be found on the Court's website at www.nccourt.net.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, services are being provided by phone and email only.

The Self-Help Center provides the resources citizens need to better understand the legal process and/or represent themselves in a court case. In addition to the Services and Resources listed below, the Center provides the services of the Family Law Facilitator and Small Claims Advisor.

We are a walk in clinic. All services are free of charge and offered on a first come/first served basis. We do charge a small fee for copies and form packets.

The Self-Help Center also provides information and education on Alternative Dispute Resolution.  This alternative form of civil litigation is less formal, less expensive and often a faster method to resolve a conflict between two parties.

Assists in preparation of Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Orders and accompanies clients to court and mediation appointments. Accompanies victims through the court process and connects them with support systems such as the Nevada County Victim Witness. Offers a free legal clinic with a volunteer family law attorney on the first Thursday and third Wednesday of each month from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with a family law attorney; no eligibility requirements or appointment necessary.

Legal Services of Northern California provides consultations, in-person or by telephone, on legal issues. LSNC serves Nevada and Placer counties. Not all services are available in both counties.

LSNC's Auburn field office provides free legal assistance to low-income people who meet eligibility requirements. Services range from referrals to representation, depending upon the client's needs, LSNC priorities and resources available.

Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) holds a Self-Help Clinic in the Law Library Conference Room, every Thursday (9am-12pm and 1pm-3:30pm) that offers free procedural assistance with legal matters in Civil, Landlord/Tenant, Restraining Orders, Small Claims, and Family Law matters. You must have an appointment.
