The Nevada County District Attorney provides crime victims with emotional support in the aftermath of crime, guidance through the criminal justice process, assistance in applying for Victim Compensation and awareness of victims' rights. All services are confidential and free of charge.

Healthy Babies offers home visits by trained Family Support Specialists to pregnant and new parents. Services provided help new parents meet challenges through education on healthy growth and development and strengthen bonding with parent and baby.

Parents can expect support in problem-solving their baby’s needs, managing life stressors, and enjoying their baby’s development throughout the program from prenatal to age five.

Families are linked to community resources throughout Nevada County. To get started, contact Child Advocates of Nevada County before your due date or up to three months after giving birth.

The Child Safety Puppeteers program recruits and trains local high school students to perform educational puppet shows in preschool and elementary school classrooms countywide. The performances teach children how to recognize and report abuse, inappropriate touching, and bullying.

They work together to build skills and abilities that will sustain and improve individual and collaborative efforts to serve the community. They also advocate for families by identifying, raising awareness, building recognition, and enhancing visibility around existing and emerging issues that strengthen families and improve the health and quality of life for people in our community, especially those facing challenges, and the underserved.

Zoom Meetings

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program coordinates volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who are dependents of the Nevada County Juvenile Dependency Court, helping to ensure they have a chance to live in a safe and permanent home.

For an application packet, contact the CASA program. The application includes a personal interview and comprehensive background check. Trainings for the CASA Program are held in the spring and fall; however interested persons can apply at any time. Volunteers must have driver's license and current insurance.

Community Beyond Violence offers a 24 hour crisis line which is available 365 days a year to victims in crisis from domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, or dating violence, and for their friends or family members. Advocate/Counselors are available 24 hours a day for counseling and response to the hospital or law enforcement. Depending on circumstances, possible emergency transportation, food, and shelter may be available to those in crisis. All services are free, confidential and non-discriminatory.
