The SAFE (Stability, Access, Foundation, Empowerment) program is committed to finding and helping youth ages 12 -26 who are experiencing homelessness.

Many youth experiencing homelessness do not have access to local or state funding or simply don’t know what services are available. And few nonprofit organizations in the region can help. SAFE fills the gap by connecting youth who have alternative, unpredictable, or inconsistent housing access with community resources and well-trained professionals.

SAFE helps mitigate homelessness in Nevada County by providing:

• Basic needs, such as food, clothing, housing, hygiene supplies, showers
• Education and training, including transitioning to college and/or trade school
• Physical health and mental wellness counseling
• Training to develop the necessary skills to live independently

EA Family Services recruits and approves local families to become foster parents, provides support and case management for foster youth in care, and provides a Transitional Housing Program for foster youth upon their 18th birthday.

AMI Housing, Inc (AMIH) is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides housing, employment and life skills programs to residents of Nevada County and Placer County who otherwise might be homeless. Nevada County residents must be clients of Turning Point. Offers assistance in multiple languages through a Language Line service.

AMIH has funding for specific programs to serve Transition Age Youth (TAY) ages 18-24 in PLACER COUNTY.

AMIH’s programs can help people who are low income and are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Any rent payment assistance help is based on their income and need. Some people get help with the security deposit, first month’s rent, and then a few months of rental assistance. Others get help for longer and some for shorter period of time. Kaleidoscope of Employment for Youth Success - KEYS is a collaborative project between the Placer County Office of Education Foster Youth Services (FYS), the Department of Rehabilitation, and PRIDE Industries. This program is designed to ensure successful employment outcomes for foster youth, ages 16-19, who have significant barriers to employment.​​

Placer County foster youth, ages 16-19 years old, are matched with individual Job Developers who provide pre-employment support and assistance with obtaining and retaining employment local in a field of interest.

Eligible youth must have a significant barrier to gaining employment, including a mental health diagnosis, physical disability or special education designation. Proof of eligibility will be requested.

Housing Opportunities Providing Experience (HOPE) offers transitional housing along with intensive life skills support for young adults that have emancipated from court ordered foster or group home care.

HOPE is a program of Whole Person Learning (WPL), a public agency that empowers youth and young adults to thrive in their communities by using a collaborative, individually tailored positive youth development approach.

The Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative makes Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) assistance available to Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) in partnership with Public Child Welfare Agencies (PCWAs).

Placer County youth who may be eligible must get a referral from the Children's System of Care. Youth with a CSOC case worker should work through them. Youth without a CSOC case worker can call CSOC directly at 530-889-6700. Timeline for receiving a voucher may be lengthy.

As required by statute, an FYI voucher issued to an eligible youth may only be used to provide housing assistance for the youth for a maximum of 36 months. In addition to providing up to 36 months of rental assistance, youth must be provided supportive services to assist the young person on their path to self-sufficiency. Youth Empowerment Support (YES!) is a program that supports youth and young adults through direct support, training, groups and leadership/system change opportunities.

YES! is a program of Whole Person Learning (WPL), a public agency that empowers youth and young adults to thrive in their communities by using a collaborative, individually tailored positive youth development approach.

Youth Coordinators help to accomplish goals by providing information and referrals for resources, identifying support systems, empowerment, education and advocacy, placement options. Program is focused on filling in the gaps when youth or young adults cannot access other supports to meet their identified needs. Support is voluntary and is offered on an as needed basis.

Unity Care youth and family agency that works to provide safe, stable and affordable housing for youth and young adults as they age out of foster care, and to provide them with the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency.

Unity Care Housing Programs

• Transitional Housing Program (THP) - must be referred by case worker. Program eligibility: Ages 18-20 years old, residing in western Placer County, early onset mental health symptoms, former foster youth receiving AB12 benefits.
• Rapid Rehousing (RRH) - Program eligibility: Ages 18-25. At risk of homelessness or experiencing homelessness in Roseville or Rocklin.
• Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) program - Program eligibility: Ages 16-25. At risk of homelessness or experiencing homelessness in western Placer County.
