Kinship Support Services Program (KSSP): A kinship family is formed when an extended family member, such as a grandparent, aunt/uncle or sibling, steps in to raise a child when the birth parent(s) are unable or unavailable.

Families served do not have to be formally connected to the foster care system.

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians opened the Shingle Springs Tribal TANF Program June 1st, 2010 and now provides TANF assistance and related support services to eligible Native Americans and their families residing in El Dorado, Placer and Sacramento Counties in California.

The Shingle Springs Tribal TANF Program incorporates culture and traditions into all aspects of the program in order to strengthen and solidify the Native families and assist in addressing and resolving issues which create barriers to self sufficiency.

The Shingle Springs Tribal TANF Program provides important tools and skills which empower Native families in becoming self-sufficient, so they can support and nurture themselves, their children, families, and community.

If your child has experimented with fire, sign him or her up for the Firefighters Burn Institute Youth Firesetter Program. Call their toll free number 1 (888) 452-SAFE (7233) or email them from the Contact Tab above. Their program provides staff for pre-academy interviews with the child involved in firesetting and his/her family, a fire safety academy completed in two sessions is also provided. As part of the academy, children will learn:

-Fire safety education
-Fire hazard recognition
-Home escape planning
-Responsibility
-Problem solving skills
-Natural & legal consequences
-Communication
-Thinking errors
-Peer pressure
-Leadership skills
