Crisis counseling
Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking can obtain crisis counseling at any time, day or night, either by calling the Stand Up Placer 24-hour Helpline at 1-800-575-5352, using our chat feature, or by coming into one of our service offices during business hours: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A trained advocate will assess the survivors’ situations, help them with a safety plan, and go over various options with them.

Shelter and safe housing

Adult Protective Services (APS) provides intervention services to safeguard the well-being of elders and dependent adults who are experiencing or at risk of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or financial exploitation.

Home Safe is a homelessness prevention program available to eligible APS clients who are either at imminent risk of homelessness or have recently become homeless due to abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or financial exploitation. 

Home Safe housing-related support may include:

• Rental assistance, including back rent or security deposits
• Utility assistance
• Conflict mediation with landlords
• Public systems navigation
• Legal services and eviction protection
• Heavy cleaning

The program is operational through June 30, 2026, or until funds are exhausted.

Sierra Community House offers Mediation and Legal Assistance which provides free and reduced cost legal services in a clinic setting for civil legal matters. All services are available in multiple languages and available on a sliding scale.

The Truckee Police Department provides law enforcement and public safety services within the Town of Truckee.

Services include:

• Patrol, traffic enforcement, marine operations, investigations, and volunteer support (VIPS)

• Disaster preparedness information and emergency readiness tools
• Safe disposal of unwanted or expired prescription medications (restrictions apply)

Prescription Medication Disposal Guidelines:

• Accepted: Legal, non-expired or expired medications in original containers
  • Container size must not exceed 5 inches high or 3 inches in diameter
  • All personal information must be removed from the label, except for the medication name
• Not accepted: Illegal drugs
