The ALS Association leads the way in research, care services, public education, and public policy- giving help and hope to those facing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

The Chapter provides local comprehensive care services, from supporting Multidisciplinary Centers of Excellence, providing grants to patients and caregivers, local & national legislative work, to the funding of global research programs. A care services team provides:

Tahoe Forest Hospital District provides a Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation program.  The program offers exercise for cardiac recovery, pulmonary rehabilitation, seniors or anyone needing to work with nurses and exercise physiologists for an individualized, medically monitored exercise plan. These classes are appropriate for all fitness levels.

The Achieve Tahoe Program provides year-round adaptive sports and recreation programs for children and adults with physical, sensory, or intellectual disabilities.

Services include:

• Adaptive ski and snowboard instruction with PSIA-certified instructors (Dec–April, weather permitting)
• Adaptive summer sports including water skiing, paddle sports, and sailing in the Tahoe and Sacramento areas
• Military adaptive sports camps for veterans and service members with disabilities

Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) provides lifelong support for individuals with developmental disabilities in Nevada and Placer counties.

Services include:

• Assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation
• Early intervention for children ages 0-3 with or at risk for developmental delays
• Genetic counseling and individual program planning
• Case management and service coordination
• Residential placement and follow-up services
• Referrals and consultation for public and private agencies

To qualify, individuals must have a substantial developmental disability such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and/or autism, with onset before age 18.

Warmline Family Resource Center offers support for families raising a child with developmental delays, disabilities, or special needs. WarmLine:

• Connects parents with other parents through family events and parent support activities
• Promotes child development and parent/child interaction by sponsoring play groups
• Encourages inclusion of all children in the community and appreciation of their unique value
• Informs parents about systems and services which support children with special needs
• Provides trainings to promote parents' awareness of how to support child development and understanding of their child's special needs
• Empowers parents to develop leadership skills which help them to be active participants in their child's programs and services. Parents are their child's best advocates.
• Offers the opportunity for parent to talk with another parent who is sensitive to their issues and concerns.

There is no charge and no referral needed.
