The Nevada County Public Health Department provides a California Children's Services (CCS) treats children with certain physical limitations and chronic conditions or diseases. Most physically handicapped conditions are eligible for benefits under the CCS program. The CCS Program is funded by the state, county, and federal tax money, along with some fees paid by the parents. This tax-supported program authorizes and pays for specific medical services and rehabilitation for children by CCS-approved specialists and has a Medical Therapy Program (MTU). CCS Offers diagnostic and treatment services, medical case management, and therapy for children and youth up to age 21.

Children's Behavioral Health
Nevada County Behavioral Health Children's Mental Health serves children and youth who have Nevada County Medi-Cal and meet moderate to severe criteria for Behavioral Health Treatment: recent psychiatric hospitalization, Probation or Child Welfare involvement, significant challenges at school, homelessness, or a complex combination of concerns that may involve trauma, depression or anxiety symptoms, and housing instability.

• Home based wrap around support for children and families who need more intensive care

Treatment location is based on need and can take place at the Nevada County Behavioral Health Office, schools, Family Resource Centers, or other locations convenient for the family. Victor Community Support Services offers programs providing a wide variety of mental health and social support services to children, youth, young adults, and families.

Victor partners with behavioral health, child welfare, schools, and juvenile justice departments across California. To receive services, people must be referred by Nevada County Children's Behavioral Health or Child Welfare Services. Referrals from schools or the probation department must be funneled through behavioral health or child welfare.

This resource provides information about bus fares and passes for Nevada County Connects, the public bus system serving Western Nevada County.

Discounted fare cards are available for eligible seniors, individuals with disabilities, and youth passengers. Children aged 5 years and younger ride free.

Discounted Fare Eligibility:

• Seniors (65+): Must present a valid state Driver’s License, photo ID card, or Medicare card (not Medi-Cal).
  • Golden Ticket Pass (80+): Lifetime pass for seniors aged 80 and older, offering unlimited free rides on all Nevada County Connects routes. Children's System of Care provides placement approval for matched families through the Resource Family Approval process, and support for parents wishing to voluntarily relinquish their children for adoption.

Fostering

Placer County provides foster care licensing and adoptive home studies to families who are interested in opening their homes. Placer County works in partnership with several community based organizations such as Koinonia Family Services, Stanford Youth Solutions/Sierra Forever Families, Lilliput Family Services, and Families for Children to recruit and educate new foster and adoptive parents.

Eligibility for Placer Children's mental health services includes full scope Medi-Cal beneficiaries, and County Medical Services Program (CMSP) beneficiaries with low or no share of cost. The Placer Sheriff’s Activities League is engaged in activities and events after school three days a week for local youth. The events include mentoring, leadership and promote good decision making through sports and/or presentations. The program also implements a drug and gang prevention environment. The Placer Sheriff’s Activities League is facilitated at Parkside Church in Auburn and is hosted by a Placer County Sheriff’s Deputies, Placer County Probation, Children System of Care, Latino Leadership Counsel and KidsFirst. The Placer Sheriff’s Activities League is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Placer Sheriff’s Activities League, along with its partnerships, will work and provide youth with valuable life skills benefiting themselves and the community.
