The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) operates the Refugee Health Assessment Program (RHAP) through local health jurisdictions, offering free, culturally appropriate health assessments to newly arrived refugees, asylees, Special Immigrant Visa holders, humanitarian parolees, and certified victims of trafficking. 

Assessment is typically conducted over two visits (initial labs and vaccinations, then physical exams and referral) within 30 and 90 days of arrival.

Services include:

  • Screenings for TB, communicable and chronic conditions
  • Vaccinations (including those needed for green card applications)
  • Mental health screening and specialty referrals
  • Lab testing and follow-up coordination
  • Service provided through local county clinics operated by funded public health departments
