THIS RESOURCE IS ONLY VISIBLE TO 211 INTERNALLY.

2/12/24 - From Ulysses to Call Center in Teams:
We received a call today and yesterday from different folks asking for a referral to MTS, I reached out to MTS to see if this was a new requirement and this is their response - similar to what we already knew: "A referral is not required to participate at MTS. Intakes are coordinated through our Homeless liaison team. When we have walk ups, we refer them to call 211 to get connected to services and possibly get on other wait list."

The Gathering Inn's Mobile Temporary Shelter (MTS) is located next to 11517 F Avenue in the Placer County Government Center.

It consists of approximately 50 tents with cots and basic bedding. The shelter also provides showers, toilets, trash service, and access to drinking water.

Supportive services, such as referrals for drug treatment and housing resources, are available next to the shelter in a county facility that will double as a warming and cooling center during extreme weather.

The goal of the program is to provide temporary shelter to those experiencing homelessness, to understand the circumstances that led to their homelessness and to help them find a better path in the future. Program participants are expected to abide by a basic code of conduct to promote the health and safety of participants and neighbors nearby.

General Information

  • Space is available on a first-come-first-served basis via intake partners. Priority is given to those who were living in the encampment at the Placer County Government Center. The shelter is intended to serve the unhoused in the Auburn and North Auburn region.
  • Tell callers that space is not guaranteed. They can call MTS at 530-537-4811 to ask about availability. Or they can walk up to the facility to ask if necessary.
  • Case Management is available.
  • No ID needed
  • Drug testing is not required
  • Alcohol, drugs, and weapons are not allowed on the premises
  • Dogs are accepted and must be non-aggressive and on a leash. Maximum of one dog per person. Cats are not allowed. More dog info received July 2024: "MTS cooling center and dog policy: Dogs are allowed. No restrictions for size or breed, but need to be with their person at all times, as there are no kennels/tie ups. Aggression in dogs may inhibit a person's ability to remain at the facility due to the impact on other individuals utilizing the facility."
  • No electricity in the tents

Eligibility

  • Auburn residents only
  • FYI...If clients are not already in HMIS, they will be added as part of MTS intake
  • if a person was exited/banned from TGI Auburn or Roseville, re-admission to either of those shelters or the MTS is considered on a case-by-case basis
  • 290 registrants (registered sex offenders) are eligible for MTS

Call agents: Placer County Probation and First Step Communities are no longer involved in the operation of the MTS. The preferred name of the site is MTS. The term Auburn Safeground is not being used.
