The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) administers the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), which provides low-income older adults with a seasonal box of locally grown produce.

Food boxes include fresh fruits, vegetables, raw honey, and herbs sourced from Certified Farmers’ Markets and similar outlets.

Program details include:

  • One box of produce per eligible senior each season (May-September)
  • Food is distributed through Certified Farmers’ Markets, roadside stands, or community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs
  • Program supports both nutritional access and local agriculture
  • Quantities are limited and distribution varies by year
