How you’ll receive your payment
If you qualify, you will receive your payment by either direct deposit or check in the mail (issued separately from your individual state tax refund). Typically, you’ll receive this payment using the refund option you selected on your tax return. The California Franchise Tax Board will issue payments on a monthly basis once your return is processed. If you qualify for the GSS II, use the tool provided by the Franchise Tax Board to find out what you may receive.

If you don’t qualify for GSS II, you may qualify for GSS I.

Golden State Stimulus 1 (I)
This is a one-time $600 or $1,200 payment. You may receive this payment if you receive the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) or file with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

The Golden State Stimulus aims to:
  • Support low-income Californians
  • Help those facing a hardship due to COVID-19
For most Californians who qualify, you don’t need to do anything to receive the stimulus payment.
