The Emergency Warming Center (EWC) in Truckee is scheduled to be open every Tue, Wed, and Thu through Thu 3/28/24 AND any other nights when weather triggers opening until 3/31/24.


WEATHER TRIGGERS FOR THE EWC TO OPEN

  • A temperature of 15 degrees F. or less with windchill
  • One foot or more of snow predicted overnight
  • Other severe or extreme weather condition/s as forecasted by the National Weather Service such as heavy rain or winds
  • and sufficient staff and volunteer coverage

  • This is an Emergency Shelter for unhoused adults 18+ years.
  • People who have housing but are stranded are unable to stay at the EWC.
  • Families with children under 18 are unable to stay at the EWC but can call the program phone for resources.
  • If someone is housed but fleeing a domestic violence situation, they can call the Sierra Community House helpline 24/7 at 800-736-1060.

6-8pm (strictly enforced). First time guests and direct referrals from the hospital and law enforcement can check in after 8 pm.

IMPORTANT GUEST RULES

  • NO VIOLENCE: physical actions, sexual advances, threatening behavior, verbal harassment, or foul language.
  • No possession or use of alcohol, drugs, medical marijuana,or weapons in or around the perimeter of the Warming Center.
  • If you come into the EWC under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you must be able to take care of yourself and follow all of the guest rules. Or the hospital and police will be involved for safety.
  • All personal belongings will be checked in and returned upon check out. Some items (personal care, change of clothing, paperwork can be kept in a provided clear plastic bag)
  • Once you have checked in for the night, there is no coming and going permitted. If you leave you are unable to return that night.
  • Everyone must follow the schedule for meals, cigarette smoke breaks and lights out.
  • Generally, pets must be kept in kennels. Well-behaved dogs might be allowed to stay with owner on the cot. There will be breaks for pets to be taken outdoors, and owners are responsible for picking up after their pets.
  • Violation of Guest Rules will result in your being asked to leave and possibly permanently excluded from the Emergency Warming Center program.
